Unlocking Token Distribution for Web3 Games: Metalcore’s Dual-Chain Success Story

The Challenge

Metalcore, an expansive combined arms shooter game, wanted to distribute tokens to its large and diverse user base. With a community of over 275,000 members combined, Metalcore needed a robust solution to manage the distribution of tokens to over 25,000 stakeholders on both zkEVM and Ethereum L1.

The complexity of the project encompassed a few elements:

  • First, Metalcore required support for claims on both zkEVM and Ethereum L1, calling for a versatile solution that could support different blockchains.
  • Second, with a large number of stakeholders, the distribution process needed to be efficient and scalable to manage high transaction volumes without compromising security.
  • Third, Metalcore needed an off-the-shelf claim solution for Ethereum L1 but also an API that could be embedded into their existing gamer experience on zkEVM.
  • Finally, the solution had to be user-friendly, accessible to non-technical team members and partners, and capable of managing various operational tasks seamlessly.

The Solution

Magna delivered a comprehensive and robust solution for their complex token distribution needs.

For Ethereum L1, Magna developed a fully branded, white-labeled custom claim portal hosted on Metalcore’s domain at claims.metalcore.gg. Data was provided via a globally distributed cache, enhancing the portal's performance and reliability. The user-friendly admin UI allowed the Metalcore team to manage stakeholders and transactions seamlessly. This interface enabled non-technical members to upload new stakeholders and sign transactions easily, significantly reducing the operational burden. This was useful in the weeks following the launch, when the supporting teams were able to add thousands of new allocations at a time several times using our simple CSV upload.

For zkEVM, Magna added support for a second custom claim portal through an integrated API. This API facilitated viewing allocations and signing claim transactions, seamlessly integrating with Metalcore’s existing tools, including the Immutable Passport. The API ensured that data could be easily updated via the streamlined admin UI, maintaining efficiency and manageability throughout the distribution process.

Security was a top concern for Metalcore, and Magna addressed this with stringent measures. The admin UX was protected by two-factor authentication (2FA). Additionally, Magna provided white-glove onboarding assistance, helping Metalcore set up the environment and test the API. Dedicated support during the launch and the first 24 hours ensured a smooth rollout, with Magna’s team ready to handle any issues that arose.

Implementation Details

The engagement with Magna was initiated at the end of May, and the token generation event (TGE) was live within a month, demonstrating Magna’s ability to deliver solutions rapidly and efficiently. The implementation process involved several key steps:

  1. Setup and Integration: Magna worked closely with Metalcore to set up the custom claim portals on both Ethereum L1 and zkEVM. The integration process included configuring the portals to support large transaction volumes and ensuring seamless data synchronization via the globally distributed cache.
  2. Customization and Branding: Magna customized the claim portals to align with Metalcore’s branding, creating a cohesive and professional user experience that resonates with Metalcore’s vibe.
  3. Security and Testing: Extensive testing was conducted to ensure the portals’ security and functionality. This involved simulated transactions to verify the accuracy of allocations and the robustness of the security measures, including 2FA for admin access.
  4. Onboarding: Magna provided white-glove onboarding assistance to Metalcore’s team. This ensured that all team members, including non-technical staff, were comfortable using the admin UI and managing the distribution process.
  5. Launch Support: During the launch and the first 24 hours, Magna offered dedicated support to address any issues promptly. This ensured a smooth and successful rollout of the token distribution.

The Results

The implementation of Magna’s custom claim portal and API provided significant benefits for Metalcore. They successfully managed 15,225 allocations across both claim portals without any issues or downtime. The efficient and secure distribution process ensured that all stakeholders received their tokens as scheduled, enhancing trust and satisfaction within the community.

  • Operational Efficiency: The user-friendly admin UI and automated processes saved Metalcore dozens, if not hundreds, of developer hours that would have been spent on developing and managing vesting smart contracts, API code, and front-end claim portal code.
  • Cost Savings: By leveraging Magna’s pre-built and audited solutions, Metalcore avoided tens of thousands of dollars in audit costs for the vesting contracts.
  • Enhanced Security: Magna’s robust security measures ensured that no security incidents occurred during the distribution process. The two-factor authentication and secure claim portals protected stakeholders from potential scams and unauthorized access.
  • User Satisfaction: Stakeholders appreciated the seamless and efficient claim process, which was facilitated by the easy-to-use and responsive claim portals. This positive experience strengthened community trust and engagement.
